What is ALEPH?
 

ALEPH (Advanced Library for Efficient Photorealism) is a system designed for the creation of computer generated imagery tailored to the demands of lighting design (physically-based realism) in order to produce heuristic images for special effects (illusion-based realism).

ALEPH is a project carried out by GIGA at the CPS , the Politechnic Engineering Center at the University of Zaragoza. It is now in its fourth stage and has gone through various versions, applying different techniques.

ALEPH uses the standard RenderMan Interface for scene description.

ALEPH, as a physically based system, concentrates on accurate modeling of real light sources, as well as on the interaction of light with the objects contained in the scene, based on solving the Integral Radiance Equation, thus allowing the resolution of the global illumination problem in any environment. As an illusion-based imaging system, it works under the RenderMan shading philosophy, calculating the images by ray-tracing methods.
